Weather is happening

Early on in this summer, it is clear that we are starting to see the effects of global climate change. Europe has been afflicted by a heat dome causing stifling conditions in cities that have largely not adopted air conditioning. This week, much of the US has suffered under a heat dome. Temperatures here in NJ exceeded 100 freedom degrees.

Aside from the extreme heat and its direct effects on people, climate change isn’t just simply mean hotter temperatures. The hotter temperatures also mean more extreme weather. After two 100 freedom-degree days, a thunderstorm rolled through. But because of the extreme heat, this thunderstorm packed extremely blustery wind gusts – gusts fierce enough to topple a beautiful, old, weeping cherry tree in our backyard.
